Born in the younger generation, Velvet grew up always on a screen. Plugged in and constantly intaking information they started out in irc rooms, fluttering around forums and picking up the native slang as surely as their mother tongue. As they taught themselves more about scripting, they opened further to the international community, going by the respected username "OwOChokeMeDaddy" and a bombastic pink avatar. Eventually picking up enough from different languages to understand most common ones on the way.
Despite the ability to kludge programs together in the equivalent of hitting a computer system over the head with a brick, the only consistent way to pay the bills came about when bandwidth became high enough for video. Although it made more than what rudimentary programming skills pay, a server rack still takes up half of their small apartment. Their rifle rests next to the bed, a relic perhaps, but untraceable. A hoof hanging near it as the cooling fans lull them to sleep each night.
The first character I made for a friend's homebrew GURPS cyberpunk MLP setting. Honestly I love them so much, I only got to play them for a few games as I joined near the end of it, however they are easily one of my favourite characters I've made.
